What you don’t know about the college preparatory maze can hurt your chances of getting into the perfect college. Step Into The Maze Inc, designs, facilitates and implements two different programs that respond to the above statement. A four-year, four-module training program utilizes three dimensional instruction: direct consultation, follow-up maintenance and interactive/media consultation that answers the important questions: Who Am I?, What Kind of Life do I want to Lead? and How do I Achieve it?. The second training program is a consultative specialized services option which allows individuals to work on selected college admissions activities. Both program options focus on the four key areas of the college preparatory process: Career Planning, College Preparation, Leadership and Change.
The ability to answer these fundamental life questions first promotes better planning for the next step-shifting student’s perceptions about themselves and their school experience. Students learn to see their schooling as their first career and themselves as learning professionals. With this mentality, students will plan and prepare for college with the methodical approach of a career professional who would be building a resume. Taking control of their educational career by taking stock of past learning opportunities, making thoughtful responses to the key questions (Who Am I?, What Kind of Life do I want to Lead? and How do I Achieve it?)
Students who understand that they are in charge of their educational career are less likely to become part of the national statistic which states that approximately 66% of all incoming freshmen will not graduate in the traditional four year time frame. This statistic has a direct impact on financial aid, tuition and retention. If an incoming freshmen changes their degree it can mean that they will have to take up to a full year of additional classes to make up the missing credits. The additional year of school will affect TAP, PELL and other federally funded programs because most will pay for four years of college only. If students are extending their college experience because of a change in major their student loan amount will increase because they will have to pay the entire year’s tuition, which means that they will have to pay more upon their graduation. The anxiety associated with student loans and how much they will owe once they graduate can cause students to drop out before they graduate so that they can limit the amount that they owe.
Mrs. Beth Milks, the owner of Step Into The Maze Inc, designed the programs and services based on her teaching experience in both public and private high schools and the rigors of her college curriculum which she taught as an adjunct professor. She understands the demands that are placed on families during this very stressful time-transitioning into adulthood.
The students that are involved in the Step Into The Maze Inc copyrighted program will produce a comprehensive professional portfolio which acts as a marketing tool that they can use in the college preparatory process for admission, scholarships, financial aid packages including work studies, and interviews.
Mrs. Milks believes that when students see in a documented form that they are successful, their perception changes regarding what they can accomplish. That is the ultimate goal of Step Into The Maze Inc: the ability of the student to be able to say “I Am…, This is the kind of life I am going to Lead and here is how I am going to Achieve it.”
